Dr. Gist grew up in Texas and spent her youth competing in barrel racing and rodeo events. She became interested in sports medicine after meeting a physician who was taking care of the athletes at the Fort Worth Rodeo. After finishing college and medical school in Texas, Dr. Gist went on to complete her Family Medicine residency at Wake Forest and her sports medicine fellowship at Duke University. She is board certified in family medicine and sports medicine. While in fellowship, she became well versed in team coverage, diagnostic ultrasound, ultrasound guided procedures, orthobiologics, concussion management, fracture care, and compartment testing. She is passionate about treating the entire patient and enjoys using her family medicine background to enhance care for her sports medicine patients. Her goal is always to optimize the patient’s overall health to improve their performance in their chosen activities. Given her background she is especially interested in equestrian sports medicine and hopes to help improve the safety in these sports through event coverage and advocacy. Outside of work she enjoys barrel racing and spending time outdoors with her husband, two dogs, and four horses.
